Running Our Hearts Out for Research

Months of planning and training shined the light on heart health as the community came together for the Transamerica Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Half Marathon earlier this month.

Four Transamerica employees, known as “Tomorrow Chasers,” started at the back of the pack and raced past more than 9,800 runners during the half marathon on October 16 to raise money for the American Heart Association. The company donated $25,000 to the association, the largest check Transamerica’s Tomorrow Chasers’ program has written to charity.

Heart disease, which kills nearly 615,000 Americans each year, is the No. 1 cause of death in the United States.

Physical activity – such as running, combined with healthy eating and stress management – is key to combating this epidemic.

In addition to the Tomorrow Chasers, more than 140 Transamerica employees, friends, and family registered to participate in the half marathon.

It’s all part of a culture and initiative Transamerica is creating to connect health and wealth. The company believes healthy living leads to overall success, including in business. And when businesses thrive, employees prosper in all aspects of their lives.

More than 14,000 runners participated in the two-day running festival that began with a 5K race on Saturday, October 15, and culminated with a 10K and half marathon the next day.

Based on the success of the race, the company is looking forward to next year’s Transamerica Denver Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.
