Habitat for Humanity: ‘More Than Just a Roof’

Transamerica helping Habitat for Humanity

Ever since it began in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has opened the door to safe housing for 6.8 million individuals in need of decent affordable housing around the world.

Habitat’s commitment to build, rehab and repair houses throughout the world using homebuyers’ “sweat equity,” volunteer labor and donations, is making a long-term difference.

As Habitat points out, a safe, decent home is “more than just a roof.” Having a home has been shown to improve family stability, as well as increase job and educational prospects.

Like Habitat, Transamerica recognizes the vital link between physical health and financial wealth.  That’s why Transamerica has partnered with Habitat for five consecutive years, contributing 12,000 volunteer hours to help build or repair homes across the U.S. This year, 300-plus Transamerica volunteers will help revitalize neighborhoods in or near eight cities, beginning July 1 in St. Petersburg, Florida.  The other cities are Baltimore, Maryland; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Denver, Colorado; Little Rock, Arkansas; Los Angeles, California; Memphis, Tennessee; and Plano, Texas.

Our volunteers in Memphis will be privileged to work alongside former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, as part of the annual Habitat for Humanity Carter Work Project.

“Transamerica’s core purpose is to help individuals and families achieve a lifetime of financial security,” said Mark Mullin, president and CEO of Transamerica. “We’re honored to again partner with Habitat in transforming the prospects for families and creating the stability, which home ownership makes possible.”
